NHS Lothian CRDC

Lothian region in southeast Scotland, covers the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, and West Lothian. NHS Lothian also provides specialist services to neighbouring regions and Scotland including cardiology, oncology, renal dialysis, cystic fibrosis, liver/kidney transplantation and mental health services.

Lothian CRDC delivers coordinated, networked commercial research across three locations, embedded within the Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility, providing sponsors with a single, integrated point of access to a diverse and inclusive population. A new commercial research delivery centre has opened and works alongside the established Edinburgh Clinical Research Facilities. It offers skilled research workforce including clinical fellows who are able to work across a range of specialties. Sponsors can access four locations through the CRDC/CRF, as well as expert research teams across NHS Lothian.

In addition, the first Scottish Practice Embedded Research Unit (PERU) is now open within a research-active GP practice with strong commercial research team expertise. Lothian CRDC works collaboratively with PERU to deliver studies transitioning across primary and secondary care with ease and access to wider communities.

We deliver studies across all specialties and collaborate with teams across NHS Lothian, the universities of Edinburgh and other local universities, industry and third sector partners. Our particular areas of global expertise include cardiology, hepatology, infectious diseases, renal, emergency medicine and genetics. We have adult and paediatric phase 1 accreditation and a strong and growing portfolio of advanced therapy trials.
